Central African youth consultation

A regional youth consultation was held in Yaounde, Cameroon, on 24-26 October. The meeting was held in preparation of the Youth Summit that will take place on 4-7 December in Lisbon. A final declaration was issued, including:

  • reaffirming the youth organisations to form a regional youth platform in Central Africa in order to ensure consequent involvement of the youth in policy making in their region. There should also be improved cooperation between youth organisations at the pan-African level and between Europe and Africa for them to be properly involved in the EU-Africa dialogue and on the implementation and monitoring of the joint EU-Africa Strategy. Concrete measures should be taken to favour the exchange of experience and the building of such dialogue fora at the regional and continental levels as well as between Europe and Africa, such as favouring technology transfers, exchanges among youth of both continents.
  • asking for ratification and diffusion of the African Youth Charter by AU Member States as well as founding of National Youth Councils
  • asking to favour professional training and education, equitable access to labour, education for all, the development of good governance through fair elections, the strengthening of regional and continental cooperation, the implication of youth in environment conservation.
