The secretariat of EurAc, the European network of active NGOs in Central Africa, presents its contribution to the joint EU-Africa strategy.
Because of the regional nature of the problems faced and solutions required by this area, EurAC members decided to adopt a resolutely regional approach to their work.
As European organisations, EurAC members share a common vision and want to achieve a greater coherence by the European Union and its member states in their policies towards Central Africa, to be more responsive to the needs and aspirations of local communities.
EurAC objective in presenting this document is to urge the EU through the joint strategy to:
- Consolidate peace in the whole region
- Promote governance including the decentralisation process and in the natural resources sectors
- Support more actively the regional processes in favour of Peace, Stability and Development, symbolized by the Pact signed in Nairobi in December 2006 at the International Conference on the Great Lakes Region by 11 African states
- Support the underpinning of non state actors as crucial partners to the development
- Employ more precise benchmarking criteria commonly defined by executive and legislative authorities and non state actors from the EU and Africa in their aid relations, to promote cooperation towards a real peace and the satisfaction of the needs of the regional populations on a regional scale
