An Africa-Europe Youth Summit will take place in Lisbon 5-7 December. The aim of the summit is to increase young people’s participation in the Euro-African Cooperation and to reinforce youth work in Africa and Europe influencing the youth policy in Euro-African Cooperation. An immediate expected result is the submission of a final declaration by a youth delegation to the EU-Africa Heads of State Summit. Over 250 youth representatives from Europe and Africa will be present at the summit.
The Youth Summit will take as a starting point thematic areas of concern that have earlier been identified by young people from Europe and Africa, namely: Poverty eradication; Gender equality; Millenium Development Goals; Good governance and democracy; Peace and conflict; Climate change and sustainable development; Trade and socio-economic development; Migration, mobility and co-development; Inter-cultural dialogue; Employment ad social cohesion; Strategy and instriuments for Euro-African youth participation and co-operation.
The summit is organised by a steering group facilitated by the North-South Centre of the Council of Europe.

Regional workshops
To prepare for the summit five regional consultation workshops will take place in Africa, which are planned for August and October. There has also been workshops for European youth as well as with the youth from the African Diaspora.
- 4-6/5: Portuguese National Consultation Meeting
- 25-27/5: Consultation with the African Youth Diaspora living in Portugal
- 22-25/7: European and African Youth Diaspora living in Europe Consultation Meeting
- 22-24/8: Southern Africa (Pretoria, South Africa)
- 1-3/10: West Africa (Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso)
- 10-12/10: Central Africa (Yaoundé, Cameroon)
- 15-17/10: East Africa (Addis Ababa, Ethiopia)
- 29-31/10: Northern Africa (Algers, Algeria)
