7th Edition of the Economic African Outlook (2008 AEO) was launched

The 7th edition of the African Economic Outlook (2008 AEO) was launched on 13 May in Paris and Berlin, and was introduced at the Annual Meeting of the African Development Bank (AfDB) group in Maputo on 11 May. It was produced by the AfDB, the OECD Development Centre, and the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa with financial support from the European Commission.

The AEO presents a comprehensive analysis of economic, social and political developments on the continent. It is the essential reference on Africa for decision makers in public and private sector.
The 2008 AEO focuses specifically on developing technical and vocational skills. More than 50 percent of African youth are illiterate and many lack any formal skills or training. Skills development is also part of the solution to several of Africa’s most pressing challenges.: technical and vocational training enhances competitiveness, contributes to social and economic inclusion, increases employment and helps reduce poverty.

The International Forum on African Perspectives – a platform for ministers, business people, co-operation professionals, researchers and representatives of civil society – has been specially created to discuss the main findings of the African Economic Outlook. It is accessible through the website.
