The 2870th Council meeting on External Relations held in Brussels on 26-27 May 2008 reaffirmed the importance it attaches to the implementation of the EU/Africa Joint Strategy adopted during the last EU/Africa Summit held in Lisbon on 8 and 9 December 2007.
The main objectives of this strategy are to promote peace and security, sustainable development, democratic governance and human rights, and to support regional and continental integration in Africa. The Council welcomed the appointment of the EUSR/Head of Delegation to the AU and the establishment in Addis Ababa of the EU delegation, as well as the appointment the SG/HR Special Advisor for the African Peacekeeping Capabilities.
