Migration and Development Conference in Brussels, 12.2.2009

The European Parliament, together with the European Commission, hosts a High Level Parliamentary Conference on Migration and Policy Coherence for Development on the 12th February 2009 in Brussels.

How do migration-related policy decisions taken in EU and OECD member states affect economic and social progress in migrants’ countries of origin? How can labour market needs and migration management be reconciled to benefit both sending and receiving countries? The aim of this conference is to raise awareness among parliamentarians of issues related to migration and development.

It is jointly organised by DEVE, the European Commission and the OECD. President Pöttering, Commissioner Michel and OECD Deputy Secretary-General Mario Amano will open the Conference, which will look at the impact of EU and OECD member states’ migration policies on the economic and social development in migrants’ countries of origin. Participants will include MEPs and national parliamentarians from the EU Members States and Candidate Countries, non-EU OECD (USA, Australia, Norway, etc.) and ACP states.
