African ministers in charge of integration met on 4-8 May, 2009, in Yaoundé, Cameroon, as part of the fourth edition of the Conference of African Ministers of Integration (COMAI IV) on the theme ‘Partnerships and Integration in Africa’.
It was jointly organised by the African Union Commission and the Cameroonian government. Representatives of Regional Economic Communities (REC), of the United Nations Economic Community for Africa (UNECA), the African Development Bank (AfDB), the European Union (EU) and the International Labour Organisation (IL0) attended the conference as well.
To date, three meetings have been held, with the first held on 30 and 31 March, 2006 in Ouagadougou, Burkina Faso; the second on 26 and 27 July, 2007 in Kigali, Rwanda and the third held from 19 to 23 May 2008 in Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire.
After two days of discussion on the state of affairs with regard to integration in Africa, as well as the mechanism put in place to implement the integration roadmap and the way forward, the meeting of the Experts in the domain of integration ended on May 5, 2009 in Yaoundé, Cameroon. The Expert’s meeting was in preparation of the African Conference of Ministers in charge of Integration (COMAI IV) scheduled to take place on 7 and 8 May 2009 in Yaoundé.
