The negotiations about the Economic Partnership Agreements (EPAs) and further integration steps of the African Union (AU) remain topics of high priority in Africa-EU relations. Thus, the Friedrich Ebert Foundation is organizing a conference on that issue on the 8th of July 2009 from 9h30-15h30 in Brussels.
The first session of the conference presents and discusses Four Scenarios of West Africa’s Future in perspective of the new EPAs. The scenarios serve as an inspiration for decision-makers in the further negotiations of the EPAs. They have been developed by experts from national, regional and international institutions, diplomacy, trade unions, employers associations and civil society that were gathered in the context of a project by FES Western Africa. The scenario study can be downloaded here below.
The second session is dedicated to the future of continental integration in Africa under the roof of the African Union. Questions like the relation between the AU and the Regional Economic Communities will be raised as well as how regional continental integration will affect Africa-EU relations
