Documents on EC Communication: Strengthening Transport Cooperation between Africa and EU

The European Commission has released official documents on strengthening cooperation between Europe and Africa in the transport sector.

On 24 June the European Commission Communication on strengthening the African-European cooperation in the transport sector was adopted. The Communication aims to connect the Trans-European and African networks, in particular through developing a common map of transport infrastructures. The Commission will make available the experience it gained from European transport policy to its African partners. This seeks to contribute to the implementation of a more efficient transport system, assisting in the development of the African continent in order to face the challenges of poverty, environmental degradation and migratory imbalances .

The official Africa-EU website also reports that discussions were intended to review the cooperation between Africa and Europe in the field of transport and to discuss possible options for the future.

An informal panel discussion gathered the Commission Vice President, Antonio Tajani, in charge Transport, and Mr. Abdoulaye Wade, President of Senegal and Coordinator of NEPAD. Other speakers included Mr Daniel Kraus, Deputy Director General of Confindustria, the Italian Confederation of Industry, Mr Michel Démarre, President of the European International Contractors, a confederation of European companies in the construction sector, and Mr Karim Ouedraougo, Dean of the Université Libre Internationale, which hosted the event.
