ECDPM Summary Report of “EU in Africa” Workshop – Brussels, 24 February 2010

In the run-up to the upcoming Africa-EU Summit at the end of 2010, this event provided a timely opportunity to provide an early assessment of the Joint Africa-EU Strategy’s (JAES) main achievements and difficulties encountered in strengthening the political partnership and enhancing cooperation between the two continents. Accordingly, the discussion mainly focused on the state of progress with the implementation of the JAES, including its performance so far in aim of building a new type of political partnership based on common interests, principles of equality, policy coherence and complementarities with other frameworks. It also provided an outline of both the challenges to be addressed in the next months and the expectations for the upcoming EU–Africa Summit.
