New EU Communication on “Delivering an area of freedom, security and justice for Europe’s citizens – Action Plan implementing Stockholm Programme”

On 20th April 2010, the European Commission adopted its action plan to implement the priorities set out in the EU Stockholm programme adopted by EU Heads of state and government in December 2009 to develop the European area of freedom, security and justice in the next 5-year period 2010-2014. This document includes many aspects on EU-Africa relations as well as specifically on the Joint Africa-EU Strategy. In particular, it focuses on ensuring the security of Europe for action on anti-trafficking in West Africa; putting solidarity and responsibility at the heart of the EU response for relevant actions on the follow-up of the Rabat/Paris Process an on the implementation of the EU-Africa Partnership on migration, mobility and employment as well as on the follow-up to the June 2009 European Council Conclusions on migration in the Mediterranean and on readmission negotiations with Morocco, Algeria, Egypt and pursuing the discussion regarding migration issues, including readmission and border management, in the framework agreement with Libya; relaunching the Tripoli process; and on the establishment of a Regional Protection Programme in the Horn of Africa.
