The Courier The European Commission’s Directorate General for Development (DG DEV) and its Directorate General for administering development projects, DG EuropeAid (AIDCO) have merged into a single new ‘EuropeAid Development and Co-operation Directorate-General’ (DG DEVCO), senior EU officials have announced.
As previously announced, the geographical desks for individual African, Caribbean and Pacific (ACP) countries, formerly within DG Dev, will become part of the EU’s new European External Action Service (EEAS) headed by Baroness Ashton.
The Director General of the newly formed DG DEVCO is not yet known. Greek national, Fokion Fotiadis current heads DG DEV whereas Dutch national, Koos Richelle, presides AIDCO.
The European Commission has further announced the creation of a new Commission ‘Foreign Policy Instruments Service’ under the auspices of the EU’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs, Baroness Ashton.
