EU The Commission today took a number of decisions as part of its mobility policy for senior staff and in order to fill senior management positions in reorganised Directorates-General. As a result of the creation of the European External Action Service, the Commission recently created a new Directorate General, DG DEVCO (the EuropeAid Development and Co-Operation Directorate General), which groups together the EuropeAid and the Development Directorates-General.
This organisational change requires the appointment of a new Director-General. Fokion Fotiadis, who is currently Director General in the Development Directorate-General, will be appointed to take this position in DG DEVCO. Furthermore, Koos Richelle, currently Director General in EuropeAid, is appointed Director General in the Employment, Social Affairs and Equal Opportunities Directorate-General (EMPL). Robert Verrue, currently the Director General in DG EMPL, will become a Hors Class Adviser in DG EMPL. These changes all take effect on 1st January, 2011. In addition, the post of Director General of the Joint Research Centre (JRC) becomes vacant on 1 December with the retirement of Roland Schenkel. Dominique Ristori, currently Deputy-Director General in DG Energy, will become Director General of the JRC. Finally, the Commission agreed to extend the mandate of Catherine Geslain-Lanéelle, the current Executive Director of the European Food Safety Authority, for a second period of 5 years from 1st July 2011, when her current mandate expires.
