African Higher Education Harmonization and Tuning Validation workshop

Africa and Europe in Partnership As part of the 2nd Action Plan and as a follow-up to the regional harmonisation workshop organised in Addis Ababa in July 2010, the European and African Union Commissions are organising a validation workshop in Nairobi on 14-15 March, hosted by the Ministry of Higher Education, Science and Technology of Kenya.

The main objectives of the regional validation meeting are:

  • to further strengthen cooperation between the African Union and its Universities and academics, the African regional organizations, the European Union and its Universities and academics, to contribute and give impetus to the realisation of the African higher education harmonization process;
  • to review and validate the findings of the Tuning feasibility study, with a particular focus on the Africa Union harmonization strategy and how Tuning can support the strategy;
  • to discuss strengths and challenges for the eventual implementation of a Tuning project and its potential contribution to the African Union Harmonization strategies
  • to consider different options (scale, areas) for a pilot Tuning project for African higher education harmonisation.

Representatives of Ministries, universities and regional and continental organizations, identified as key players for implementing the African Union harmonization strategy, are attending the workshop. See the programme for more information.
