Further discussions on Migration and Stockholm programme

The Justice and Home Affairs Council, home affairs and migration ministers discussed the draft Stockholm Programme on the 30th November 2009. There was broad consensus on creating a more secure and open Europe where the rights of individuals are safeguarded.

Barroso names his team – The new Commissioner for Development

Today, President Barroso announced the New Commission Team, where Bulgaria – Rumiana Zheleva was given the International co-operation, humanitarian aid and crisis response dossier and former Energy Commissioner, Latvian Andris Piebalgs, will probably become the next Development Commissioner upon the approval of the European Parliament. The Stockholm Programme: EU-Africa Partnership on Migration, Mobility and Employment

The draft Stockholm Programme was presented by the Presidency on 16 October 2009. Coreper held a first exchange of views on the Programme during its meetings on 21 and 22 October 2009. The European Council emphasizes the importance of the external dimension of the EU’s policy in the area of freedom, security and justice and underlines the need for the increased integration of these policies into the general policies of the European Union.

What French NGOs will do during the French Presidency of the EU

France is taking the lead of Europe on 1st of July. This French presidency of the EU is taking place in a particular context, marked by the French rejection of the European Constitutional Treaty by France in 2006 and the recent No from Ireland. Moreover, the European elections and the eventual entry into force of the amended Treaty will closely follow the French EU presidency. The future of Europe will be central in the debates.
